In the current state of the Treaties governing the European Union, the rules on the following fields of social policy are subject to unanimity decision by the Council (representing Member States), with no intervention by the Parliament (TFEU Art.153(2)) : (c) social security and social protection of workers; (d) protection of workers where their employment contract is terminated; (f) representation and collective defence of the interests of workers and employers; (g) conditions of employment...

The economic model of sports relies mainly on advertising and sponsoring by commercial companies. Sports are thus dominated by the narrow oligarchy of multinational sponsors and advertisers, whose purpose is to leverage the positive image of sport in our societies to sell their products or services. Sport is now a global business - whereas its spirit originally was, and should remain, that of a healthy leisure activity. This domination of sports by the economic interests of advertisers and sp...

[This proposal is still a work in progress. Much more needs to be done, once the working group has reached its quorum] Prevent sports from being taken over by the economic interests of advertsing companies, in a radical way: prohibit advertising during sports events and around the broadcasting of sports events. In each Member State, one can define a "living wage", i.e. the wage necessary for a family of 4 to live decently: providing food, housing, clothing, education, healthcare, access to culture and a capacity for savings. In recent times the ways of powerful multi-national corporations avoiding fair taxation within the European Union have increasingly come to light. The automotive industry has an enormous importance in terms of (1) environmental impact, (2) contribution to mobility and (3) economic value added and employment. Automotive use and production should decline over the next century - but this decline must be managed responsibly....

In each Member State one can define a "Environmentally Sustainanable Living Wage (ESLW)". We propose that: (1) a methodology be defined at EU level to establish such an ESLW; (2) in each EU Member State and region, this methodology be used to define such a ESLW, according to the local infrastructure or housing costs; (3) the EU adopt per Directive this ESLW as the mandatory minimum wage in the Member State or region. The mode of implementation of this minimum wage would be left to national legis...

The justification of shareholders being the only ones who take decisions in companies is that they are supposed to have contributed most to its existence by providing the necessary capital. However, this only holds true for those who purchased the shares from the company upon its capital increase (on the "primary market"). All the others never brought any capital to the company itself: they just bought their shares from a previous owner, on a second-hand market (the "secondary market" on the S...
